Two Openings and a Re-opening

Jack London restaurant-bar Sweet Jimmie‘s officially reopened last Friday, five days after a shooting on the premises left two dead and four wounded. In an interview, owner David Ward emphasized that the shooting was a “fluke,” but that the restaurant had nonetheless increased security in the days since the re-opening. Ward also said that he and his partners haven’t seen a significant drop in business in the wake of the tragedy. Meanwhile, the Oakland Police Department and Crime Stoppers are offering a $40,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the killer’s arrest.

Locanda da Eva’s Former Home to Be Filled

The folks behind adorably named Pleasant Hill tapas-y place Nibblers Eatery and Wine Bar are opening a new “farm to fork” restaurant in the space most recently occupied by (dearly departed) Locanda da Eva, which lasted only four months before folding in November. The new restaurant, opening sometime this summer at 2826 Telegraph Avenue, will be called Origen and will focus on New American smallish plates made from locally-sourced, sustainably grown ingredients.

Toast Toasts its First Week in Business

Kid-friendly Rockridge wine bar Toast Wine Lounge officially opened for business at 5900 College Ave., in the space vacated by San Francisco Dancewear. According to co-owner Kristin Policy, business has been running smoothly thus far: “We didn’t have any hiccups and have been astounded by how seamlessly our opening went,” she wrote in an e-mail. Toast has 30 wines by the glass, red wine on tap, and a smallish tapas menu; see this week’s Last Call for (much) more.

Table Scraps

Plum‘s Daniel Patterson and his partners have apparently nailed down a concept (family-style and approachable, with communal tables, outdoor seating, and room for seventy people) and a construction start date (sometime this month) for their long-anticipated Jack London Square restaurant, though they still have neither a name nor a head chef. … Oakland’s Ozumo‘s now offering a prix-fixe Sunday brunch menu. … And in tangential food/pop-culture news: The guy who plays Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother is apparently friends with the people who run the local raw restaurant chain Cafe Gratitude. Said he in a recent CBS 5 video segment: “you just feel a vibe of love and goodness when you walk in there.”
