Search Warrant Scandal: OPD to Fire 11 Cops

Reeling from a phony search-warrant scandal that has already resulted in overturned convictions, federal lawsuits, and the illegal incarceration of numerous residents, Oakland police officials announced yesterday that they intend to fire nine officers and 2 sergeants connected with the scandal. We’ve already heard about Officer Karla Rush, who has been described as perhaps the worst offender. Now, ten more cops join the list of those accused of lying to judges in order to obtain search warrants and haul people off to jail without sufficient evidence. According to the Chron, the officers’ attorney, Mary Sansen, claimed that the Department is at fault for failing to offer instruction in how to write search warrants.
