Perata to Dems: Don’t Plan on Attending Obama’s Speech

How badly have budget negotiations with the governor broken down? According to the San Francisco Chronicle, state Senate President Don Perata has told his fellow Democrats in the state legislature not to bother flying out for the national convention in Denver. There’s too much work to do here, staring down Schwarzenegger and the Republicans over the budget crisis. The Chron adds that the state may have to start taking out emergency loans from private banks as early as next week. Yes, we’re that broke.
