Bay Bridge crews are scrambling to fix a crack in the bridge so that the span can reopen at 5 a.m. on Wednesday. The crack, which was found during a routine inspection over the weekend while the bridge was closed for reconstruction, forced CalTrans to miss its original planned reopening of the span at 5 a.m. today. According to the Chron, transit officials are advising commuters to stay home again today to avoid nightmarish traffic jams. Traffic turned out to be relatively light on Friday — the first day of the bridge closure — when commuters got an early jump on the Labor Day weekend.
