Grilled Cheese & Mac ’n’ Cheese & Cheesesteaks & Beer
by Janelle Bitker
Described as a 4-in-1 freak show, the next Jack London Square block party is really, in all seriousness, actually going to specialize in grilled cheese sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, Philly cheesesteaks, and beer. The cheese-filled extravaganza on Saturday, August 19, will feature grub from East Bay food trucks such as Kenny’s Heart and Soul and El Taco Oaxaco, as well as San Francisco representation via The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, Grilled Cheese Guy, and Little Red Riding Truck. The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, by the way, will be slinging some grilled cheese sandos stuffed with mac ’n’ cheese — so I think they might automatically win or something. In seriousness, the culinary lineup is surprisingly diverse for such an American-centric theme, with German, Argentinian, and Filipino vendors sure to put an interesting spin on their cheesy dish of choice. Don’t forget the beer, and dessert, and the lovely fact that entrance to this party is free.
