The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office is expected to announce today that it will cancel its multimillion-dollar federal contract to detain undocumented immigrants at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond, according to a knowledgeable source within the county. The Republican Party has rescinded its endorsement of John Fitzgerald, a candidate in the 11th Congressional District, which includes portions of Contra Costa County, after learning that he’s a Holocaust denier. Fitzgerald received 23 percent of the votes in June’s primary. (The New York Times)
