1. About 65 teachers were arrested last night in Sacramento by the CHP after they refused to disperse following a day-long demonstration, the LA Times reports. The teachers’ union had a permit to demonstrate at the capitol until 5 p.m., but some teachers refused to leave and then were taken into custody. Thousands of teachers took the day off from school yesterday to protest potential deep budget cuts to education statewide. But the teachers’ union’s demands are unlikely to be met — it wants the Legislature to enact tax measures without putting them before voters, a move that even Democratic Governor Jerry Brown does not support.
