1. For the first time in California history, most voters will cast absentee ballots this year, the Chron reports, citing a new Field Poll. The poll estimates that 55 percent of the votes will be cast absentee. The poll also projects that voter turnout will be about 55 percent — slightly less than it was four years ago, and down considerably from the 2008 presidential election. Turnout among Republican voters is expected to be 68 percent compared to 55 percent for Democrats and just 38 percent for independents, the Sacramento Bee reports.
