In Contra Costa County, Steve Weir, the county’s elections chief, tells us that there are still approximately 50,000 absentee and provisional ballots that have yet to be counted. Such numbers could radically alter the outcomes of many races, particularly the remarkable victory of Gayle McLaughlin over Richmond incumbent mayor Irma Anderson. Currently, Green Party member McLaughlin holds a 192-vote lead, but once those ballots are counted, anything could happen.
