Rodeo Refinery Accused of Poisoning Bay

According to a complaint filed by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, 2008 was the year that ConocoPhillips employees decided to get a little naughty. What if we take up to 7.6 million gallons of horribly toxic wastewater from our oil refinery, they asked themselves, dump it in San Pablo Bay, and kill armies of fish? Won’t that be fun? Now, it’s a little less fun. The Contra Costa Times reports that the board is planning to issue a $490,000 fine for the release. Refinery officials declined to comment, but added that they will be discussing this with the water board soon enough.
