.Peoplesoft Rises From the Dead

Apparently, Peoplesoft founder and cuddly tech guru Dave Duffield has sufficiently recovered from the Oracle bloodbath to get back in the game. This week’s he’s launching Workday, a new enterprise software startup based in Walnut Creek. Instead of selling the software to companies, Workday will rent access to the applications, avoiding the cost and infrastructural support traditional enterprise software requires. But according to Informationweek.com, companies may be reluctant to share the personal information of their employees with an outside party. In any case, Oracle is impressed enough to churn out its own version of “pay-as-you-go” software. Or maybe Larry Ellison will just buy out Duffield once again. A new startup, a new golden parachute. Ain’t capitalism grand?
