In another rain-soaked and crash-prone stage of the Tour of California, Levi Leipheimer took the overall lead Monday. The two-time winner from the Astana team allowed Thomas Peterson of Garmin-Slipstream to get the stage win, according to the coverage in the San Jose Mercury News. Michael Rogers is in second, David Zabriskie third, and the guy with the yellow wristbands is in fourth, 30 seconds behind the leader. The Chronicle sports section actually deigned to cover the race in Tuesday’s paper, an improvement from Monday, when you could find coverage of the spectacle in the in the Bay Area section but only rankings in the sports pages.
