Gregoire Sticks a Fork in Socca

Restaurant owner Gregoire Jacquet closed Socca Oven on October 30, citing differences with his business partner. Located in North Berkeley’s upscale Epicurious Garden food mall, the restaurant stall specialized in the Provencal chickpea-flour pizzas known as socca, topped with high-end ingredients such as scallops and braised lamb. “Business was great, we just had different opinions about things,” says Jacquet, referring to his partner, whom he declined to name. Socca Oven opened in March 2006. Jacquet, who operates the fancy takeout restaurants Gregoire in Berkeley and Oakland, says he’s like to open a new socca restaurant in a new location. “I’ll take the concept with me,” he says. “I’ve already got all the pans.”
