As the vote to decide who will replace outgoing state Senator Don Perata draws near, the rival campaigns of Wilma Chan and current state Assemblymember Loni Hancock have started trading body blows. According to the Berkeley Daily Planet, Chan has filed a complaint with the state’s Fair Political Practices Commission, alleging that Hancock illegally paid one of her campaign workers with cash from her assemblymember officeholder account. Hancock’s folks have denied the charge, claiming that the employee was serving as Hancock’s district director and not working to advance her campaign until March. Looks like Chan and Hancock won’t be sending each other any Christmas cards anytime soon.
