We have all been there: Our flight has just landed at the Oakland International Airport and it is late. So late, in fact that BART has gone to bed for the evening. Sadly, we are not blessed with an accommodating friend — much less a loved one — kind enough to spirit us away from the arrivals deck in a private car. We are left with few options. The most obvious of these is a cab ride, but this, as we know well, is not economical. Another is walking. But it’s a long walk indeed. There is, however, a third way — or, at least there is for anyone living near Lake Merritt or downtown Oakland. It is a bus called the 805. The 805 is quick. At $1.75, it is cheap. And it runs every hour, around the bottom of the hour, from 12:37 a.m. to 4:37 a.m.
