Best Apocalypse-Style Workout

The closest you’re likely to get to apocalyptic conditions is Tough Mudder, a twelve-mile obstacle course that involves plummeting into ice water, crawling through mud pits and barbed wire, and surviving electric shock. CrossFit Oakland gets you prepped for the grueling course with high-intensity workouts of the day (or “WODs”), and a new special Sunday Tough Mudder training session. The WODs will have you heaving twenty-pound balls against a wall, working against your body weight in ring pull-ups, and attempting a number of other challenging real-life movements to get you ready to scale twelve-foot walls and traverse greased monkey bars on the Tough Mudder course. But it’s the running training with Aaron Castillo on Sundays that gives you a competitive edge. Castillo, a member of CrossFit Oakland himself, will help competitors tweak their running technique and build up the endurance necessary to complete the course, so running correctly becomes second nature and the focus can remain on the obstacles. CrossFit Oakland will have you smoking the competition at Tough Mudder, and ensure you’ll have the stamina to outlast the other survivors when the apocalypse finally rolls around.
