Berkeley’s Job Market Looking Up

The Daily Cal‘s got the job numbers for Berkeley in the month of November, and hey, they could be worse. Unemployment dropped slightly, from 11 percent to 10.7 percent, and is now at its lowest point since May. As the story notes, unemployment was considerably better this time last year, when it hovered around 6.9 percent. But the first quarter of 2009 mirrored the national trends and bopped up into the double digits. Job growth is usually the last metric to show progress in a recovery, and we’ll be in for many more months of dismal news. But unless this is just an effort by retailers to temporarily staff up for the holiday shopping season, Berkeley might be seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
