Berkeley Animal Rights Activists’ Suit Goes Forward

A judge has ruled that a lawsuit against federal authorities who raided the offices of Berkeley animal rights activists last year can go forward. According to the Chron, the feds had attempted to dismiss the suit filed by Long Haul Inc., but failed. Federal agents and UC Berkeley police had raided Long Haul’s headquarters on Shattuck Avenue after threatening messages came from one of its computers. But Long Haul has maintained that the feds overstepped their authority because the computer terminals are available to the public and the authorities had no evidence that the organization was behind the messages, which were sent to UC Berkeley researchers.
