.9:14 p.m. Friday: Best Take-Out Beer Selection

Fred's Market

It’s 9 o’clock on a Friday night and you ain’t got a date. So what’s a beer-lovin’ boy or girl to do? How ’bout heading over to Fred’s Market and suckin’ down a Belzehuth? For those of us who love the Arrogant Bastard and his buddies Old Peculiar, Dirty Dick, and Dead Guy, Fred’s is as close to heaven (or hell) as you can get. With more than one hundred different beers ranging in price from about a buck to six or seven bucks a bottle, this market has your brewski waiting. You want organic? You’ll have to choose between English, French, or American. You want Anchor? Fred’s has all of them. Same story with all the beers made by Mad River, Sierra Nevada, Rogue, Abita, Speakeasy, Downtown, and Anderson Valley. How about the English Samuel Smith (some folks claim these are the best beers in the world)? Fred’s has about a dozen different Sam Smith brews, including the rare beverages made at Samuel Smith’s Old Brewery. You like Sam Adams? Fred’s has all those too. And while friends don’t let friends drink Coors, Miller, or Bud, Fred’s Market still sells ’em. While you’re at it, buy a bottle of Delirium Tremens. Could there be a better name for a beer?
