What’s Behind Don Perata’s Jeff Denham Recall Campaign?

Here’s the Sacramento Bee‘s theory: it’s not petty, small-minded vindictiveness. Well, not just petty, small-minded vindictiveness. The Bee has a new story out that argues that Perata is trying to lock in a veto-proof Senate majority for the Dems, so future budget cycles don’t get gridlocked like they almost always do. That would actually be a clever and constructive bit of politicking, since state Republicans have been so obstinate, and the two-thirds majority rule on passing the budget has enabled their worst instincts. But we know the Don pretty well, and we’ve got our money riding on his basest instincts.
