Look, Ron Dellums wasn’t called the “conscience of the Congress” for nothing, okay? We get it. He led the campaign to institute sanctions against South Africa’s apartheid regime in the ’80s, and that falls under the category of Very Very Important. But when we heard that the good mayor is leaving town to accept South Africa’s highest award and clink a few cocktail glasses, while the city is still waiting for him to tackle its toughest problems, we got a little petulant. But then we thought, who are we kidding? Since he does practically nothing anyway, we won’t even notice he’s gone. Have a drink on us, Ron.
