The kids of Unity High School aren’t shy with their opinions. Lillian Hsu, an English teacher at the fledgling East Oakland charter school, asked her three eleventh-grade classes to write restaurant reviews, which took the students all over Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro. Some visited favorite haunts, while others embarked on culinary adventures — and one or two might just put me out of a job one day. The 48 young foodies published their reviews this month as Flavors: Unity High’s Guide to Bay Area Restaurants. (I found this out when I spoke to the students about being a restaurant critic.) Here are a few key excerpts. If you want a copy, contact Hsu at [email protected]
