An El Cerrito Middle School is in shock following the revelation that a 12-year-old girl was raped in the school’s stairwell during the school day. Authorities said the sexual assault occurred last Thursday at about 2:40 p.m. at Portola Middle School. The 14-year-old alleged perpetrator was arrested at his home at 8 that night, and the district placed both the school’s principal and vice principal on administrative leave.
