Bay Area hip-hop artists Nik tha Quik, MC Birth, and Tha Archivez will be among the performers at a rap battle and open mic at the Element Lounge (1028 Geary Blvd.) in San Francisco on Wednesday. The event is a fund-raiser for the Children’s Art Center, a nonprofit that describes its “’soul’ purpose” as “bringing the gift of art within every child’s reach.” Recently, the Children’s Art Center bought pizza for kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Hayward and then sent them to clean up the neighborhood. The nonprofit, based in Oroville, Calif., is trying to open art centers in San Jose, San Francisco, and Hayward, said spokeswoman Rah Jones, and will hold shows throughout the summer to raise funds to support their efforts. The rap battle/open mic happens on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 9 p.m. $10 at the door, $5 if you mention Craigslist or MySpace. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the group.
