Mike Patton may be most known as the lead singer for Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, but he’s started more projects than Game Of Thrones has killed key characters. And normally, his new bands serve as a means to get further out there then he’s been able to do in his primary bands. His solo “vocal” albums are an exercise in the absurd. His latest band, Dead Cross, is a collaboration with former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, as well as Retox guitarist Michael Crain and Retox bassist Justin Pearson. It’s not exactly as weird as you’d expect. The high-octane thrash elements you’d anticipate from the players is there, en masse. It’s a non-stop joyride of spastic avant-metal. The group sounds like they are having the time of their life here, almost like this was the members’ first band, the one they learned to play speed metal in.
