University of California President Mark Yudof is pushing for a massive increase to student fees – more than 30 percent in the next year – to make up for a large budget deficit, according to the Chron. The huge hike, which would come in two 15 percent increases, would raise annual student fees above $10,000 for the first time and would mean that the cost of an education in the UC system has nearly tripled in the past decade. Annual student fees were $3,429 in the 2001-02 school year and have shot up dramatically ever since. Fees would jump to $10,302 in the 2010-11 school year under Yudof’s plan.
