Oakland Fire Reminds Us of 1991 Disaster

Okay, that got a little too close. Yesterday, fire officials managed to put out an Oakland hills blaze that started near the origin of the terrible 1991 conflagration that consumed so much of the North Oakland hills area. According to the Chron, the fire raced through two acres of hills above the Caldecott Tunnel before a team of seventy firefighters put it out. Nearby residents were spooked by how close the fire came to their homes, as well as the inevitable comparisons to the 1991 fire that burned 3,700 homes.
