The standard unemployment rate, meanwhile, rose to 10.2 percent, the highest level since 1983. Although the economy has shown signs of improvement lately, particularly in the stock market, October was the 22nd straight month of job losses – the worst streak on record. About 190,000 people lost their jobs last month.
