Technology and cannabis — two Bay Area economic engines destined for a mashup in Harborside Health Center’s new free app for iPhone and Android. The 80,000-member medical marijuana collective with 75 employees carries about 40 different kinds of buds alone, and that’s not including its immense varieties of hash, edibles, clones, and merchandise. It’s all a bit daunting. But this app offers the full Harborside menu with pictures. Killer Deals of the Day promise promotions like a “free gram with $150 purchase” to those who show their phone at checkout. No shock then that 45 percent of the app’s users view it at least twice a day, as it’s sometimes the only way to keep up on new arrivals like Platinum OG Clean Green (16-percent THC) or Blue Dream (18 percent), which can sell out in hours. An app calendar advertises Harborside wellness services like yoga and acupuncture, while a news section pipes in drug war issues and advertising from StopTheDrugWar.com. Still a little testy on iPad, the Harborside iPhone app is just a sniff of East Bay high technology to come.
