You Write Too Long: This Week’s Cover Story Bite-Sized

This week, “What’s Wrong with This Picture?”: At first blush, Frank Cordelle’s photo book, Bodies and Souls, seems to be a fairly standard collection of female nudes, with the emphasis decidedly not on the glamorous. The Oakland photographer has been shooting real women, and hearing their stories, for years, carefully selecting his subjects to embrace the widest possible range of ages, races, life experiences, etc., for his documentary Century Project. It wasn’t easy getting the book published – fear of child porn charges scared away prospective publishers. You’ll have to look hard to find it. Also: Turns out the man who loves photographing women is a little shy of revealing too much of himself. But that’s okay, Cordelle’s work and the faces (and bodies) of the women speak more eloquently than words.
