We Stand Corrected: Phillip Garrido Enters a Shocking Not Guilty Plea

Journalists — including this one — declared with nearly a hundred percent certainty that Antioch man Phillip Garrido would plead guilty to the 1991 kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard at today’s hearing in Placerville, California. But he went against all expectations today by entering a shocking not-guilty plea at the last minute. Apparently, Garrido’s lawyer, Susan Gellman, objected to the racial and geographic makeup of the jury that indicted Garrido and his wife, Nancy, last September.
