.UC Employees’ Strike’s a Go

Well, they did it. Despite a Friday court order banning any work stoppages, the service employees of the University of California went through with their threat to carry out a five-day strike yesterday. The Chron reports that thousands of workers joined the strike around the state, including a janitor who handles medical waste for $16 an hour. UC officials have sent out letters warning that employees could face suspensions and other disciplinary measures for the illegal strike, and the governor has decried the union walkout. Look for more pickets today at a campus near you.
