According to the Chron, Northern California has emerged as one of the most important centers of political campaign contributions in the country. Three factors account for this: Silicon Valley’s riches, MoveOn.org’s ability to organize campaigns on the Internet, and the anti-war sentiment that rallied behind Barack Obama. In fact, the Chron reports, Northern California gave more money to Obama than did donors in Southern California, the first time in history that the northern half of the state outspent the LA region. But don’t go patting yourselves on the back too soon, dear readers. The Chron also printed a list of the zip codes that donated the most cash, and Piedmont’s was the only East Bay neighborhood to make the list.
