Longshoremen Take Holiday to Protest War

Well, the long-awaited one-day longshoremen strike at the Port of Oakland has arrived, and the Trib reports that the group Direct Action to Stop the War has set up a picket line in front of the port entrance. Activists are reportedly trying to convince truckers to join the longshoremen and shut down West Coast freight traffic. Meanwhile, a labor arbitrator ordered the longshore union to tell its people to report to work as usual; we’ll see how this plays out today.
