Apparently, Chip Johnson’s not the only one with a dim view of Oakland. The Alameda County grand jury just released a report slamming Oakland city officials for abusing their city-issued credit cards and living it up on the public’s dime. The dubious expenditures include a $337 room service binge by two employees in Vegas, and about a grand in barbecue to celebrate National Public Works Week. (Wait, there’s a National Public Works week?) But no one likes the get the public to pay his bills more than Mayor Ron Dellums, who according to the Trib racked up more than $31,000 in city credit card charges in 2007. And let’s not forget City Attorney John Russo, who stiffed us with $18,000 in expenses. What’s that line about fish rotting from the head down?
