OK folks, it’s looking like there is going to be stiff competition over the coveted Lawrence Berkeley National Lab second campus. A total of 21 proposals from eight cities were submitted to officials by last Friday’s deadline. Each proposal is vying for what could be an explosive economic engine packed inside a 2-million-square-foot campus. Among the last-minuted bids was a proposal from Golden Gate Fields to put the lab on the Albany shoreline. However, Richmond, where UC Berkeley maintains a large undeveloped tract of land at its Richmond Field Station site, is still considered by many to be the frontrunner.
