It’s no secret that the Bay Area is rife with groundbreaking scientific research, but QUEST, KQED’s new project highlights environmental and science stories with a local approach in an ambitious multimedia series. Using a blog written by local movers and shakers, TV segments, radio reports, and educational materials, QUEST covers topics in astronomy, biology, chemistry, engineering, environment, geology, health, physics, and weather. Recently covered: Study by Oakland Zoo animal curator Colleen Kinzley on elephant vibrations in Namibia, cleanup of Hunter’s Point Naval Shipyard, abandoned boats clogging up the San Francisco Bay and Delta, and the restoration of the South Bay Salt Ponds.
