Tucked into Berkeley’s up-and-coming Westside of campus, this yoga studio is growing as quickly as its neighborhood. Opened last November, Groove Yoga offers power yoga classes perfect for the athletic yogi looking to get his or her heart rate going. Sure, there’s a Buddha statue in the studio and ragas lightly playing in the background, but at the end of the day the teachers make sure to balance out meditation with some quickly flowing vinyasa poses. Select classes are also heated to 90 degrees or warmer to really get the blood flowing. The studio is clean and organized, with cubby holes available to tuck away street clothes. There are always free towels and lemon water, and sometimes Matti, the resident Bernese mountain dog, is lying around in the lobby. But perhaps the best part of this new studio is the introductory rate of $30 for thirty days of unlimited yoga. Now that’s om-inducing.
