Soft serve, once the purview of state fairs and shitty fast-food restaurants, has now come to the gourmet elite. It started with playful spots like Hawker Fare, which try to make dining fun. Now it’s moved to that always-experimenting Gourmet Ghetto staple, Cheese Board Pizzeria. On May 20 of this year, the pizzeria started serving the most delicious soft serve we’ve ever tried. But here’s the kicker: the milk doesn’t come from a cow. It gets its intense richness from buffalo milk. Because of the richness of the buffalo milk, it doesn’t need a lot of sugar to be tasty. Available in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or — of course — swirl, this is some of the richest, creamiest ice cream anywhere. Even soft-serve haters will delight in its real-strawberry flavor and decadent milkiness. And, it goes great with pizza.
