Let’s see, you want to be outside with your honey enjoying a sweeping vista of the entire bay, in a place where you can sit down but not be around a bunch of cars. Berkeley’s locally famous Indian Rock would be the logical choice, right? Well, around the corner and two blocks uphill, Grotto Rock Park is infinitely less crowded, perched higher up than Indian Rock, and features lots of secluded little nooks and crannies to really spend some quality time with that special sweetie. Some hundred years ago, a local real estate company gifted the park to the city during its development of the Northbrae area. Today, the tall, broad rock is nestled in a gaggle of elegant North Berkeley homes and offers gorgeous views of downtown Oakland, the Golden Gate and Bay bridges, San Francisco, and Marin County. Come at the right time of year and a rock-ensconced blackberry bush provides a sweet snack as you bliss out.
