Even before you get to the DJ lineup — which includes such indie radio titans as D Madness, Riddm, Rocker T, and Wisdom (otherwise known by his Latin Casanova alter ego, Papi Chocolate) — there’s a litany of practical reasons Luka’s Taproom is the summa cum laude of East Bay clubs. For one thing, it’s all about easy access, baby. The club is spitting distance from the 19th Street BART station in downtown Oakland — which is also Grand Central Station for Yellow Cabs, so you can get your swerve on without getting a DUI. Add to that a long list of sexy amenities: a rotating art exhibit, a spacious dancefloor, and a billiards room that doesn’t offset the club’s decor. The bouncers are fly, and the bartenders are folks you’d want to party with after hours (if you’re lucky). There’s rarely a cover, and if there is one, it never exceeds $10. And Thursday night’s “Brothers and Sisters” party — during which DJs Daniela and Dedan spin groove-oriented house with booming backbeats — makes this club the hottest, slinkiest place to pretend Thursday is the new Friday.
