Oh, what a glorious day for the East Bay! We finally have a signature landmark that will make us the envy of the civilized world. That’s what the San Francisco Chronicle said today about the new Bay Bridge; in fact, reporter Michael Cabanatuan wrote, “The new span of the Bay Bridge already is becoming an icon.” How do we know this? Because an Oakland car dealership is printing pictures of the bridge on the paper promotional license plates it sticks on the cars in its lot. After reporting this breathless new development, Cabanatuan added, “And the image could garner even more national and international exposure.” Even more national and international exposure? Whoa, slow down, Oakland! Don’t let all the bright lights let you forget who you are!
