Commemorating the victory of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín’s Mexican forces over the French army at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, Oakland’s Cinco de Mayo festival – held in Fruitvale on May 4, a day before the anniversary – featured five entertainment stages, hundreds of vendors, and a parade, hosted by the Asociación de Comerciantes Profesionales de Oakland.
