Seventy-five years ago, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which forced 120,000 Japanese Americans into concentration camps and began an era of excruciating pain and humiliation. One of them was actor and activist George Takei. In And Then They Came for Us, Takei and others recount the story of the hardships their families endured, and the emotional scars left behind. The documentary serves as a powerful history lesson: Through newly found photographs by Dorothea Lange and the commentary of survivors, we are reminded that we must never tolerate the violation of an individual’s, or group’s, constitutional rights, and that we must stand in solidarity against the banning of any race from entering the country.
