Alameda County Medical Center Saved, Again

The Alameda County Medical Center, whose Highland Hospital provides some of the only medical care to tens of thousands of poor, uninsured residents, got a major break yesterday. According to the Oakland Tribune, President George Bush signed legislation that reversed changes in the Medicaid system that would have cut billions in payments from hospitals that serve the indigent. Prior to the bill, the Medical Center faced the loss of $100 million a year, or roughly twenty percent of its budget.
