$5 Billion Bond to Repair Aging Courthouses

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed Don Perata’s bill to issue a $5 billion bond to renovate aging and overcrowded courthouses around the state. Court officials claim that $10 billion will ultimately be needed to address the problem; 90 percent California’s 460 courthouses are falling apart. But this is a start, they added. The bond will be repaid by jacking up court fees.
