You might not have noticed them in the pack following leader Lance Armstrong over hills and down valleys last month, but “Fast” Freddie Rodriguez of Emeryville and Chris Horner from Bend, Oregon, played prominent parts in this year’s Tour de France. Both cyclists are profiled in Pro, a feature sports documentary on the 2004 season of American road-racing professionals, which plays at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wheeler Auditorium on the UC Berkeley campus (tickets are $10, kids fifteen and under free, from NorCalMTB.org). The screening is a benefit for the NorCal High School Mountain Bike League, and Rodriguez (right) will appear in person after the show with cyclists Mike Sayers and Eric Saunders. Rodriguez, along with seven-time Tour de France champion Armstrong, is competing in Sunday’s San Francisco Grand Prix — Rodriguez finished second in last year’s race. Visit SanFranGrandPrix.com for race details, and for general info, phone NorCal at 510-325-6502. — Kelly Vance

Bike Till You Puke
Want to get in great shape for fall and winter sports while taking in some Oakland scenery and fighting breast cancer at the same time? Bike Against the Odds has a training ride for you in its five-step program, no matter what your ability level. Begin this Sunday (8 a.m.) with a twelve-mile ride (400 feet of climbing) from Lake Merritt through the Oakland hills and back – a 21-speed bike is recommended for those without monster calves. On subsequent Sundays, the routes progress to 20, 30, 47, and 65 miles, all organized by the LUNA Chix team. The 47- and 65-mile pro-am rides hit the canyons and peaks hard from the Oakland hills through Moraga. Yahoo!
