The Pardee Patriotic Picnic

The Fourth of July can stand for many things, but for some folks the holiday is, at least in part, a celebration of a certain old-timey vision of America: muskets, quill pens, and dudes in wigs. If that’s the kind of thing that floats your boat, you’ll probably enjoy celebrating this Independence Day with a Victorian-style picnic on the expansive grounds of the Pardee Home Museum (672 11th St., Oakland), one of the oldest houses in Oakland. Picnic offerings, included in the $15 price of admission, will be your typical summer cookout fare — burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, and such. But live performances of period-specific patriotic tunes and an assortment of lawn games such as croquet and badminton should have you feeling positively Alexander Hamilton-esque. Top hats and petticoats optional.
