It’s not that the movies are sad — although they sometimes are; Hotel Rwanda played recently — it’s just that the Monday evening Parkway clientele periodically weeps for milk, or love, or simply because it’s something to do. Why is Baby Brigade a serial Best Of winner? Probably because it’s the only East Bay cinema that welcomes you and your new baby with open arms, sells you a $5 movie ticket, plops you down on a sofa, and serves you pizza, salads, sandwiches and, most important, beer and wine (just the thing for nursing mothers). Infants come and grow in yearly cycles, of course, and this past year the Parkway suffered a decline in Baby Brigade attendance — curse you, Netflix! — that threatened the survival of this time-honored parental date night. You know that if you don’t take care of the puppy, papa’s gonna have to give it away. In other words, big mama, get thee down to this unique, local, family-owned cinema with your infant. Just remember: When the little drooler starts getting too physically sophisticated, Baby Brigade is no longer the appropriate venue. Monday showings are typically at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (arrive early!), but call or check the Web site to be sure.
