Out of sheer boredom and morbid curiosity, I wandered inside Hot Topic in Berkeley yesterday. Besides the goth-lite corsets and frilly elastic thingys passing as “skirts,” the thing that struck me most was how much Alice in Wonderland merch is already on the racks, even though the Tim Burton movie won’t be released for another month or so. How are the kids supposed to know if they want to wear a T-shirt with Johnny Depp on it looking like a cross between Carrot Top and Behemoth without seeing the movie yet? Oh yeah, it’s in Hot Topic.
